Serious complications like necrosis, hemorrhage, and infection present rates of up to 25%, 50%, and 80% mortality respectively. Other problems like pseudoaneurysm and pseudocyst formation, or venous thrombosis also increase morbidity and mortality to a lesser degree. The occurrence of pancreatic infection must therefore be avoided.
