Patience Worth

A grave digger lies dead beside an open grave. Twelve coffins emptied of their occupants. A pattern only one mind can decipher.
When Scotland Yard discovers London's cemeteries have been methodically violated, Detective Frederick Blackwood turns to his niece, Patience Worth, a young woman whose unconventional intellect pierces the veil between the explicable and the impossible.
Patience's investigation leads to Dr. Ambrose Winthrope and his ominous research at Bodiam Castle, where the National Trust representatives report "inexplicable unease" and suffer mysterious "accidents" during inspections. Within those ancient walls, Winthrope pursues forbidden knowledge gleaned from papers he extracted from Ingolstadt University "through methods best left undocumented."
Beneath the castle, medieval tunnels have become chambers of horror. The moat conceals countless atrocities, while the great hall houses electrical apparatus for private "demonstrations" to wealthy patrons with similar disregard for human dignity.
As lightning strikes ancient stone, science and vengeance collide in a horrifying awakening, but can Patience's methodical mind be enough to stop what has been assembled from death itself, or will it find her first in that liminal space where "the boundary between the living and the dead" has been "smudged out of existence"?
