Radio Luxembourg Charts - 1960 to 1968

The much-loved pastime of many people was tuning in to the English service of Radio Luxembourg, a popular radio station in Europe founded in 1933. The station was known affectionately as "Luxy" and played entertainment and popular music, filling a void left by the limited offerings of national broadcasters on the continent. One of its most famous programs was the "Top Twenty Show," Europe's first regular popular music chart countdown, which premiered on October 1st, 1948. Initially, the show used sheet music charts to determine the rankings.

As the late 1950s approached, Radio Luxembourg recognized the changing musical tastes of its audience, particularly the shift towards teenagers as a significant market. To cater to this younger audience, the station started using the NME (New Musical Express) record chart to accurately reflect the records that the teenagers were buying. This change was in line with the growing influence of record company-sponsored shows on Radio Luxembourg's programming. This book contains all of the charts from this very special period in the history of popular music.
