The Cambridge Ancient History

"The Cambridge Ancient History Volume of Plates I" serves as an essential visual companion to the authoritative historical series, providing a comprehensive pictorial record of the ancient world. Prepared by renowned scholars J.B. Bury, S.A. Cook, F. E. Adcock, and C.T. Seltman, this volume bridges the gap between written history and material culture. It features a curated collection of plates illustrating the art, architecture, and artifacts of early civilizations, ranging from the dawn of humanity through the established empires of the Near East and the Mediterranean.

This volume is an invaluable resource for students, historians, and archaeology enthusiasts, offering high-quality reproductions of coins, sculptures, pottery, and architectural remains. By providing a tangible view of the physical environment of ancient peoples, it enriches the reader's understanding of the cultural and social developments documented in the main text series. "The Cambridge Ancient History Volume of Plates I" remains a foundational reference for those seeking to visualize the origins of Western and Near Eastern civilizations through the primary evidence of their surviving material heritage.
