Gwen has joined a drug interdiction team in Maryland in preparation for a series of lectures to Bureau field officers. The Director is intent on broadening her experience so that her career will continue to flourish if and when his appointment ends.

Her encounter with MS-13 drug traffickers is successful, but her in-service training tour is suddenly interrupted when a close friend disappears from his home in western New York. As trainees at Quantico they had been much more than colleagues but he has left the Bureau to enjoy a long-term home and stable family life. Now working for an international manufacturer of military equipment he has vanished and left no evidential trail. Fearing the worst, Gwen is called to her role as the Director's most effective tracker. Her investigation reveals a vicious plot with both human and geopolitical implications, a plot that will result in her utilization of her most sophisticated and most lethal skills.
