Brought up in the footballing heartlands on Merseyside, Geoff junior is the son of former Liverpool player and later legendary scout Geoff senior. Released from his beloved Reds as a teenager, Geoff plied his trade in non-league football before a chance to become professional came at Preston North End. A cultured central defender, he was signed by Bobby Gould and quickly gained legendary status with Rovers fans due to his total commitment; he was made club captain and as skipper he led the Gas through one of their most successful periods.

With a reputation for a no-nonsense approach with players and managers of both Bristol clubs, he went onto win the respect of the red half of the city, and continued to entertain with his brilliant sports coverage over the next three decades.
Top Man is Geoff Twentymans life story, a quite remarkable journey from pitch to gantry and a testimony to a man who was able to unite blue and red in Bristol through their love of sport. This was never more evident than when he became the only Rovers man in history to receive a standing ovation from the crowd at Bristol Citys Ashton Gate on his retirement.
