Colonel Weatherford's Young Entry:

Colonel Weatherford's Young Entry by Gordon Grand is a sparkling classic of sporting fiction - a collection of tales that celebrates the world of foxhunting, friendship, and gentlemanly adventure with wit, elegance, and nostalgic charm. First published in the 1930s, this beloved volume introduced readers to the fictional English countryside of Colonel Weatherford, Master of the Hunt, and his lively circle of friends, whose escapades capture both the discipline and delight of the sporting life. With crisp prose and a keen eye for human nature, Grand transforms the rituals of the hunt into miniature comedies of manners, where courage, sportsmanship, and eccentricity collide. From the exuberant chaos of the field to the quiet dignity of the hunt breakfast, every story glows with warmth and authenticity. Beneath the laughter and daring gallops lies a subtle moral current a belief in honor, restraint, and the values that once defined rural society. But Grand's art lies not merely in describing horses and hounds. His stories breathe with affection for character the bluff colonel, the impetuous youth, the wise old huntsman drawn with precision and humor reminiscent of Surtees and Wodehouse. Colonel Weatherford's Young Entry is both a tribute to a vanishing England and a timeless portrayal of camaraderie, courage, and the eternal thrill of the chase. For lovers of equestrian sport, country life, and classic storytelling, this collection remains a touchstone a window into a gentler world, rendered with intelligence, humor, and heart.
