Betty McKenzie-Tubb has been scribbling since youth, beginning with contributions to the Sydney Morning Herald and to the ABC radio programme The Argonauts. She spent most of her working life as a teacher of the deaf, for whom the door to literacy is sometimes difficult to open. She is grateful to Montaigne, the father of the personal essay.
