A School for Consciousness

Ethan Mercer thought meditation was a way to quiet the mind.

Then he discovered it could open a door.

Using concentration, visualization, and an emotional connection to a place or moment, Ethan begins experiencing lives that are not his own. He can see through another person's eyes, feel their emotions, speak their language, and carry fragments of their knowledge back with him.

But there is a rule he cannot break: the people whose lives he enters remain completely themselves. He is only a passenger.

At first Ethan believes he is discovering a strange new way to experience the past. Then the experiences become harder to explain. A man appears to know he is there. A blue door keeps returning. Other people begin having experiences of their own. And Ethan starts to wonder whether consciousness is moving through time at all.

Maybe time is not something consciousness travels through.

Maybe one moment simply replaces another.
