Gettysburg and Vicksburg

In the summer of 1863, the Civil War reaches its hinge point.

At Gettysburg, Union and Confederate armies collide in the Pennsylvania hills. Along the Mississippi, Vicksburg tightens under siege. Two battles, fought hundreds of miles apart, will decide the fate of armies, families, and a divided nation.

For the men of the Long Gray Line, the war has become personal.

Nathaniel McAllister serves the Union with discipline sharpened by loss. James Tanner carries the burden of a Confederacy running out of time. Andrew McAllister, no longer the young officer who once trusted maps more than men, learns that courage and survival rarely follow the same line.

In this Civil War historical fiction novel, West Point classmates face the test they feared most. Old friendships strain under cannon smoke. Oaths clash with blood. Honor demands a price no academy ever taught them to pay.

From the ridges of Gettysburg to the trenches of Vicksburg, Gettysburg and Vicksburg: Summer of Decision, a Steel and Honor novel, follows Union and Confederate officers through the turning summer of the war.

The summer of decision has come. Not every man will cross it unchanged.
