As the geographical boundaries of the firm expand, §complex organizations emerge which need greater §information-processing capacity. The dissertation §examines that dynamic process and its information §needs. Since internationalization proceeds step-by-§step, its success depends on the ability of the firm §to gather the necessary information during the §process and to effectively utilize that information. §Therefore, information-processing plays a crucial §role in the internationalization process. However, §this role not only increases as the firm further §internationalizes, but the ways and means of §accessing information and the quality and quantity §of information-processing changes during this §process. In this dissertation internationalization §is operationalized by examining the different stages §in that process (products, operations and markets). §Information-processing capacity is operationalized §by examining the use of information and §communications technologies (ICTs).
