Featuring works by poets such as Zhang Jie, Zeng Jihu, and Lou He, the book engages in a deep scholarly exploration of the relationship between poetry and culture, the uses of poetry, and its connection to the act of writing. It argues that contemporary poetry continues to sustain a "language-history" mechanism that transforms itself within historical contexts. In particular, the expression of Chinese emotion, consciousness, and experience-as well as the evolution of language itself-unfolds within history as part of China's social and cultural development.
