Lizzie is a "half Scottish and half Norwegian" girl with a great ability to learn languages. In fact, at the age of only 21, she already talks about seven of them. The novel is a true story and is mostly set in England in the period from the early 1990s to the early 2000s. The story is told by her dear friend, who is also the author of the book. The plot unfolds and takes shape through the memories, the letters, the stories of the two friends and in the development, over the years, of their respective lives. And here is that themes such as that of the conflict between traditional values and new cultural contaminations, the universal theme of the search for an absolute of happiness, motherhood, loss, alcohol and substance abuse up to the theme of AIDS, are all present in the author's story. In her almost cinematic writing, they become episodes, told daily now with delicacy, at other times with disbelief, often with savory humor.
