You speak BACnet. That is rarer than you think.

Commercial building automation and mission-critical controls look similar from the outside and pay very differently. If you already service BMS or BAS - air handlers, VAV boxes, chilled water, BACnet and Modbus, graphics and trend logs - you are closer to a data centre controls seat than almost anyone else in the building.

Controls is where the mechanical plant, the electrical plant and the monitoring layer meet, which is exactly why it is hard to staff. A data centre needs someone who can read a sequence of operations, follow an alarm to its cause, commission a system without breaking uptime, and understand EPMS as well as BMS. That is a narrow set of hands.

It is not a controls textbook and not a general data-centre primer. It assumes you already know the trade and sells you the delta - including the honest parts: smaller reader pool than the mechanical or electrical lanes, project travel in some lanes, on-call, and pay quoted only from employer-published bands with city and capture date.

Licensing is never asserted as a universal rule, because it isn't one. Whether low-voltage or limited-energy licensing applies to you, and whether you may terminate line-voltage circuits, depends on your state and your authority having jurisdiction - the book routes you to your own regulator rather than guessing.
