What happens when one machine makes the same decision four million times?

Amara receives a letter telling her that an automated system has placed her on her third-choice course. The letter gives four perfectly reasonable factors. It gives an appeal route.

But it gives no name.

So Amara and the other five investigators begin asking the question that nobody seems able to answer:
