Each chapter includes:

• Things to Ponder that help you examine your habits, responsibilities, relationships, and surroundings
• Small but Significant Acts that can be undertaken without a large budget, elaborate plan, or new organization
• Practical ways to strengthen household life, parish life, useful work, local relationships, stewardship, hospitality, and belonging
• Opportunities to discover actions that satisfy several human needs at once-building competence, affection, beauty, participation, memory, and community together

This is not a checklist to complete or another program to manage. Readers are encouraged to move slowly, choose what fits their present season, and begin with one act close to home.

A shared meal may strengthen affection, identity, hospitality, culture, and gratitude. Repairing an object may save money while developing skill, reducing waste, and preserving memory. Walking through the neighborhood may provide exercise while increasing attention, local knowledge, and human encounter. These are small acts, but they are not insignificant.
