God has created a world without fixed rules. Unfortunately, he still expects someone else to sort out the mess.

Adam Parker is a software developer whose life revolves around work. A trip to the office bathroom should be uneventful. Instead, a portal drops him into Freewilland-a universe where God is tired of being God and getting home means doing him a favor first.

His assignment takes him to New Ham, a frontier city with gunslingers, a lawyer who is literally a shark, and a baby mayor in a mechanical suit. The locals are on the brink of war with the Swiners, and Adam is supposed to help prevent it. He has no relevant experience, no useful plan, and a strong preference for staying alive.

But behind the absurdity lie some familiar problems: prejudice, political manipulation, and people who stand to gain from keeping their neighbors afraid. As Adam finds unlikely friends among New Ham's law officers, staying out of trouble becomes harder-and less appealing.

Getting home was supposed to be his only goal. Now he has to decide what he is willing to stand for.
