Girl Behind The Glass

A few crazy nights of bar hopping. The ashes of a long-lost friend. And Mike still has to go to work the next day.Mike has gotten very good at avoiding the question of what comes next.By day, he works a legal job he never meant to keep. By night, he drinks, smokes, sings karaoke, chases women, and holds court with the same crew in the same familiar bars. It is a life built around good stories, bad decisions, and the comforting promise that tomorrow can always be dealt with tomorrow. Then a package arrives.Inside are the ashes of Austin, the friend Mike once planned to write with—and the unfinished manuscript they left behind.Suddenly, the past Mike has spent years outrunning is sitting in an urn beside him. What follows is a booze-soaked, darkly funny journey through Washington-area bars, old friendships, complicated relationships, and the unfinished business between two writers who once imagined a very different future. As Mike carries Austin through one last run of late nights and questionable choices, the manuscript begins forcing him toward the things he would rather not examine: the friend he lost, the writer he stopped being, and the possibility that his carefully maintained life has become another kind of hiding place.Sharp, irreverent, and unexpectedly tender, The Girl Behind the Glass is a contemporary literary novel about male friendship, grief, dark humor, and the terrifying possibility of starting over.Sometimes the hardest story to finish is your own.
